Background
Skills Portfolio 3 consists of two parts: a media artefact and a written brief outlining your communication strategy.
Part 1: Media Artefact
Theme
Your artefact must persuade the chosen audience about the value of one discipline / major from the Faculty of Arts. The list of majors can be found here.
We expect people will make the artefact about their major. But you can also make the artefact about your minor or an Arts discipline you are interested in.
Audience
You must create the artefact with the intention of influencing a specific audience (e.g., young people, university students, the general public, the government, philanthropists etc).
It can take the following forms: poster, podcast (2 minutes max), short video (2 minutes max). If you wish to work in a different media mode, please contact your tutor for approval.
Format and submission of your artefact
See here for details.
Part 2: Communication brief
You must complete the following sections:
Synopsis (50-100 words): A short descriptive statement about your creation
Target audience (1 sentence): Describe who your artefact is targeted to (age range, gender, cultural, socio-economic backgrounds, etc.)
Purpose (50 words max): What is the intended outcome of your creation: change opinion, raise awareness, influence behaviours etc ?
Dissemination (2 sentences): What media channel(s) (internet, print, billboards etc.) will you use to disseminate your artefact?
Strategy (100-200 words): Describe how the above elements of target audience, purpose and media channels are intended to work together purposefully to achieve your communication goal
References
Please reference all sources in a reference list at the end of your Brief.
At the end of the brief, please also attribute any materials used (e.g. images). For example, if your images have been obtained via Adobe Spark, reference this with something like: "Source for all images used: Adobe Spark".
You should mention at the end of the brief, what tools you have used to create your Media Artefact. For example: "Poster created using Adobe InDesign".
You may reference within the Media Artefact, but it depends. For example, if you quote someone you should provide an in-text citation to indicate who said it. If you use statistics, you should provide an in-text citation to indicate where the statistics came from.
Format and Submission of your communication Brief
Please submit your Brief as a Word document or in pdf format via Turnitin.
