Reflective Thinking
Reflective thinking involves consideration of the larger context, the meaning, and the implications of an experience or action. It is more than just recollecting experiences. Rather, reflective thinking involves considering the impacts of actions, activities and experiences, and understanding the effect and influence of these factors. Reflective thinkers consider different perspectives. It allows for the exploration of knowledge, emotions, feelings and reactions. Although reflective thinking is associated with emotional growth and development, is it a useful skill for planning, analysis, identifying and addressing problems, and to inform future actions and solutions.
Influencing Skills
Influencing skills involve the ability to change others people's attitudes, opinions or behaviours, either directly or indirectly. It requires awareness of team or organisational dynamics, and a sound understanding of the needs and motivations that drive behaviours. Successful influencers inspire trust in others. They draw attention to their causes and motivate others to enlist support. Influencing also involves generating strategies for mediation, negotiation, and problem solving. Strong interpersonal skills are utilised to best effect when exercising influencing skills.
Self & Social Responsibility
Individuals who demonstrate self and social responsibility possess insight into their personalities and the attributes that shape their behaviour. However, self and social responsibility involves more than merely acknowledging one’s feelings and preferences, but also the ability to be self-aware in order to understand why and how one’s pre-existing traits influence their judgements and decisions. In turn, this awareness assists in navigating personal and professional life. Being socially responsible is to acknowledge one’s impact on others in their environment. Additionally, a strong sense of self and social responsibility helps an individual to identify their strengths, weaknesses and gaps in what they know and what they can do. This can inform strategies to fill those gaps and overcome knowledge and skill shortfalls.
Unit Information
ARTS1000/ARTX1000 is worth 10 credit points, which equates to 150 hours of work; therefore, you should expect to commit an average of 10 hours of your time per week to this unit including all scheduled and unscheduled activities as well as preparing and executing the assessment tasks.
ARTS/ARTX1000 is a Pass/Fail unit, which means that all students will receive either "S" for satisfactory or "F" for fail as their final result. No final numerical grade will be given. However, during the session, marks will be awarded for each assignment. If students score 50% or higher overall they will be awarded an "S" for the unit. This unit will not count towards a student's WAM (Weighted Average Mark).
A one-hour lecture will be livestreamed each Tuesday from 12pm-1pm. A recording of the lecture will also be made available for later viewing.
'In Person Scheduled' and 'Online Scheduled' students will attend a weekly tutorial class, either on campus or via Zoom. 'Online Flexible' students will engage in asynchronous activities online. There are no scheduled classes for 'Online Flexible' students.
