Design Theory in Practice GRDE1024Commencing 1 January 2022 Version 1 (1 Jan 2022 - onward) Syllabus This is an introductory unit that should be completed in a student’s first semester of study at Curtin. This unit aims to prepare students in design-focused disciplines for the requirements of both academia and industry practice. Students will be required to develop and demonstrate skills in referencing, research, communication (written and oral), and thinking (critical, evaluative, and reflective). Students will be prepared to use these skills not just for academic contexts, but also in ways that are unique to design-focused disciplines (e.g. writing and presenting a design report). To enable students to practise and apply these skills, as well as provide the core foundational knowledge required in design disciplines for both academic and industry contexts, this unit will also engage students in the exploration and discussion of key design theories over the course of the semester. Tuition patterns The tuition pattern provides details of the types of classes and their duration. This is to be used as a guide only. Precise information is included in the unit outline.
